(NSI News Source Info) ISLAMABAD - May 23, 2009: Seventeen militants and three security personnel were killed in fighting in various areas of Swat on Friday. Ten security men were injured. Pakistani fire department workers try to extinguish the fire at the Tasveer Mahal Cinema following a blast in Peshawar, Pakistan, Friday, May 22, 2009. At least five people have been killed and 80 wounded in an explosion in the northwest Pakistan as military Army continues an offensive against Taliban militants entrenched in the Swat Valley. According to an official announcement, troops are consolidating their positions and expanding their control over the valley. In Shangla, troops took control of Baini Baba Ziarat, Nazarabad, Uchraisar, and Wanai Ridge. During clashes, three militants and a JCO were killed. Troops secured militants’ strongholds in Takhtaband village and Qambar. During a heavy exchange of fire, eight militants and one soldier were killed and six security men were injured. Four militants were arrested in Kot Musa. Meanwhile, bodies of two policemen were found lying in the Nishat Chowk in Mingora.
