(NSI News Source Info) NEW DELHI - May 17, 2009: The Election Commission of India Sunday formally announced final results for 541 of the 543 elected seats in the Lok Sabha or lower house of parliament. 
Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi thanked the people for a "massive mandate"
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by Congress party has won 261 seats, followed by the National Democratic Alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with 159 seats, according to the election commission.
The Congress won 205 seats alone, the BJP 116 seats alone.
Counting in two seats had to be stopped Saturday as the electronic voting machines had developed snags, said the election commission. The two seats should be from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Third Front has won 80 seats, with the Communist Party of India-Marxist obtaining 16 seats, and the Bahujan Samaj Party, or all society party, 21 seats.
The Fourth Front has won 26 seats, with the Samajwadi Party, or socialist party, 22 seats and Rashtriya Janata Dal party led by four seats. Other small regional parties won 15 seats.
