(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - January 25, 2011: Representatives of France and Russia will sign an agreement today to build the Mistral helicopter carrier at the Elysee Palace, the ceremony will be held in the presence of President Nicolas Sarkozy and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin.

Last December, Russia and France agreed to build two landing ships of the type "Mistral" in French Saint-Nazaire and two - under license in Russia for the Russian Navy. The Helicopter carrier ship includes 16 vehicles. It is capable of accommodating up to 450 people.

Russia’s Mistral helicopter carriers will be built in St. Petersburg on dedicated new wharves on Kotlin Island.

These wharves will later be used to build large civil and military ships.

At the end of December 2010, Russia and France announced the joint construction of two Mistral ships in France and two in Russia (under license).

Mistral construction in Russia may start in Russia after 2014.
