(NSI News Source Info) WARSAW, Poland - February 27, 2010: Poland's defense ministry on Feb. 25 inked a deal with Israel's Aeronautics Ltd to acquire eight unmanned aerial drones, half of which will be used in Afghanistan, the ministry's Web site said.
Aeronautics Ltd. was awarded the 89 million zloty ($33 million) contract on Feb. 1, beating offers by two other Israeli competitors, according to the ministry.
Four of the drones will be sent to Polish troops serving in Afghanistan, and four will remain in Poland for training purposes.
A NATO member since 1999, Poland currently has 2,000 soldiers deployed in Afghanistan in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and intends to send an additional 600 troops there this year.
