(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada – November 4, 2012: The U.S. amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard pulled in Hong Kong waters on Oct. 29, 2012, to get replenishment and embarked Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) arrived in Hong Kong for a scheduled port visit Oct. 29.
While in Hong Kong, Sailors and Marines will have the chance to experience the culture, participate in Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) tours, volunteer for community service events or just relax and see the sights.
"I've never been to Hong Kong before," said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Aaron Richards. "I'm very excited about going to the bazaar to buy some nick knacks and I will be going on an MWR tour to see the city and have a nice dinner."
The various MWR tours include a trip to Disneyland, a Kung Fu class, rock climbing, wine tasting, sunset boat rides, historical and cultural tours and shopping trips.
Sailors and Marines are also scheduled to visit a local high school to help students prepare care packages for the homeless that will be distributed during the holiday season.
"Community service events give us a chance to become more familiar with each other's cultures," said Religious Programs Specialist 2nd Class James Decker. "When we share a common goal and work together, we change the way we see each other as people and that changes the way we treat each other as nations, and that changes the world."
The Bonhomme Richard ARG, commanded by Capt. Cathal S. O'Connor, is comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46) and amphibious transport dock ship USS Denver (LPD 9) and is currently operating in the 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility.
