(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - December 16, 2011: Airbus delivered today its 7,000th aircraft, an A321, to US Airways – the airline that operates the largest fleet of Airbus aircraft in the world – from the Airbus facility in Hamburg, Germany. This milestone comes just two years after the delivery of Airbus’ 6,000th aircraft which underlines the continued vibrancy of the commercial aviation sector and the market’s clear vote for eco-efficient aircraft.

 

The 1,000th Airbus delivery was an A340-300 that went to Air France in 1993, nineteen years after the first Airbus aircraft was delivered – an A300B2 also to Air France, in 1974.

The 2,000th delivery was six years later in 1999. It took half that time, just three years, to get to the 3,000th delivery in 2002 and three more years to reach 4,000 deliveries. The tempo went up another notch taking Airbus only two years to hand over its 5,000th aircraft, an A330-200 to Qantas in December 2007. The 6,000th Airbus was an A380 which was delivered to Emirates in January 2010.

The airline not only operates the largest fleet of Airbus aircraft in the world; with over 220 A320 Family aircraft flying in US Airways colours today, they also operate the largest fleet of our best-selling, eco-efficient A320 Family," said Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO. "This milestone is a tribute to the hard work and commitment of Airbus teams around the world. We have improved efficiencies company-wide and this has enabled us to deliver record numbers of latest generation aircraft at continually increasing rates, with an environmental footprint ever decreasing."

By the end of the year, US Airways will operate a fleet of 93 A319s, 72 A320s, 63 A321s and 16 A330s. The airline also has firm orders for an additional 58 A320 Family aircraft, eight A330 aircraft and 22 A350 XWBs on backlog.

Over 8,200 A320 Family aircraft have already been ordered and more than 4,900 delivered to more than 340 customers and operators worldwide reaffirming its position as the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. The A320neo has over 95 percent airframe commonality with the current A320, making it an easy fit into existing fleets while offering up to 500 nautical miles (950 kilometres) more range or two tonnes more payload at a given range.

ORDERS & DELIVERIES

THE MONTH IN REVIEW: NOVEMBER 2011

Airbus maintained its sales and delivery pace in November, booking 149 orders for its A320, A330 and A380 jetliner families, while delivering 59 aircraft from these three product lines.

The A320neo new engine option for Airbus’ best-selling A320 Family once again led the month’s new business, with orders coming from key customers in the Middle East, United States and Europe.

ALAFCO, the Kuwait-based international aviation lease and finance company, ordered 50 A320neo jetliners, stating that this fuel-efficient new version was an absolute “must have” for its portfolio. 

Qatar Airways selected the A320neo as the reference aircraft for expansion of its short- to medium-haul fleet, ordering all three aircraft types offered in this latest version: 30 A320neos, 14 A321neos and six A319neos. 

Additionally, Aviation Capital Group – the United States-based global aircraft leasing company – signed a purchase agreement for 30 A320neo aircraft, while Transaero became the A320neo’s first customer in Russia and CIS with its order for eight of the jetliners.

With these bookings, firm orders for the A320neo Family reached 1,196, ordered by a total of 21 customers.

In other new business for November, Qatar Airways became the latest Airbus customer to place a repeat order for the A380 – adding five of the 21st century flagship airliners to its five already on contract.   This brings total A380 orders to 243 from 18 customers.

Completing the month’s bookings were Hawaiian Airlines’ order for five more A330-200s – which will support the continued expansion of its network and replace the carrier’s current 767-300s; and BOC Aviation’s contract for an A330-300.

The sustained delivery cadence continued in November, with Airbus providing nearly two new aircraft per day.  Its deliveries were composed of 45 A320 Family jetliners, 11 A330s (including another of the new A330-200F freighters), and three A380s (one each to Korean Air, Emirates and Qantas).  As a result, Airbus delivered a total of 477 aircraft to 84 customers in 2011 through the end of November, compared to 461 during the same 11-month period last year.

With November’s new business and deliveries, Airbus’ total backlog stood at a new record of 4,453 – consisting of 3,348 A320 Family jetliners, 925 aircraft in the A330/A340/A350 XWB families, and 180 A380s.

(NSI News Source Info) PARIS, France - August 30, 2009: Airbus has delivered its 4000th A320 Family aircraft to Brazilian flag carrier TAM from its Final Assembly Line in Hamburg. The aircraft, an A319, was handed over to TAM in the presence of the President of the Board of TAM, Maria Claudia Oliveira Amaro as well as Airbus President and CEO, Tom Enders.

The aircraft is powered with IAE engines and configured in a comfortable single-class lay-out seating 144 passengers. On the A319's ferry flight from Hamburg to Brazil, TAM will transport goods for schools for handicapped children in the region. The equipment was donated by Aviation without Borders Germany (LOG) and facilitated by the Airbus Foundation.

Maria Claudia Oliveira Amaro, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAM said: "TAM's acquisition of the 4000th A320 Family aircraft is another milestone in our partnership with Airbus. It will be an even bigger excitement when TAM's aircraft heads for Brazil, as it will also be contributing to an important initiative in the social responsibility arena."

In July more than 10,000 Airbus employees involved in the programme at all Airbus' sites celebrated the production of the 4000th A320 Family aircraft.

TAM became an Airbus A319 operator in 1998 with a historic combined order of 90 aircraft together with the airlines TACA and LAN.

Today the airline operates a fleet of 125 Airbus aircraft. More than 350 Airbus aircraft are in operation in Latin America with 22 carriers. This represents more than 40 per cent of aircraft over 100 seats in service in Latin America.

The A320 Family, which includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, is recognized as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. Each aircraft features fly–by-wire controls and all share a unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range. More than 6,400 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold to 221 customers worldwide, making it the world's best-selling commercial jetliner ever. The four aircraft are all A321-200 versions, powered by IAE V2533-A5 engines. All have been operating recently across easyJet’s extensive European route network, and are available for delivery in September and October. They are all relatively young aircraft which make them attractive in today’s market. Announcing this new mandate today Hamish Davidson, Executive Vice President Business Development for BAE Systems’ Asset Management business said: “We have a robust and innovative marketing plan in place which we consider will lead to a timely and successful placement of these aircraft, and which is why easyJet has selected us to take on this important aircraft remarketing project.” The Airbus A321 is the largest variant of the Airbus A320 family of aircraft and was first delivered in 1998. These four recent build aircraft will be attractive to existing Airbus customers operating with IAE-powered A320 family aircraft in their fleets. They also represent an attractive investment opportunity for financial institutions whose business models favour such assets. In recent years BAE Systems has amassed much expertise in the remarketing and management of Airbus aircraft. It has previously managed and remarketed Airbus A319, A320 and A321 aircraft on behalf of several banks. (NSI News Source Info) BLAGNAC, France - July 18, 2009: During a ceremony held at Hamburg, Germany, Shanghai Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus aircraft, an A321, becoming a new operator of Airbus aircraft. The aircraft is the first of 10 A321s ordered by the Shanghai-based carrier in 2006 and 2007.

Powered by IAE V2533-A5 engines, the carrier's first A321 is fitted in an all-new, comfortable two-class configuration with 178 seats (166 seats in Economy, 12 in Business Class). The aircraft will initially be deployed on domestic routes followed in the future by regional routes including Japan and Korea.

"Introducing A321s to our fleet was a strategic decision for Shanghai Airlines in anticipation of the future growth of the domestic as well as international air traffic market," said Zhou Chi, Chairman of Shanghai Airlines. "After 20 years of fast, steady and all round development, Shanghai Airlines is becoming an international airline based in the regional hub of Shanghai. The introduction of the highly reliable and efficient Airbus A320 Family aircraft will help Shanghai Airlines to expand its new base, develop domestic routes network and increase capacity in order to meet increasing passenger demand," added Zhou.

The airline was established and started operations in 1985. It was founded by the Shanghai municipal government as the first independently-run local airline in China. It was initially restricted to domestic flights, but in September 1997, it won government approval to operate international services. In October 2002, it began to issue shares on the Shanghai stock market. It launched domestic freighter services in May 2004. It is the fifth-largest airline of China in terms of fleet size. In 2006, a cargo airline, Shanghai Airlines Cargo, was established with Taiwan-based EVA Air. In its 22-year history, with the contribution of its well-recognized Flight Operations Quality Assurance(FOQA) program, Shanghai Airlines has had zero accidents, fatalities or severe damage to its aircraft, making it one of the safest airlines in Asia; and possibly the world. *

The A320 Family is recognised as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. With more than 6,300 aircraft sold, and over 3,900 aircraft delivered to more than 300 customers and operators worldwide, the A320 Family is the world's best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320 Family has the lowest operating costs of any single aisle aircraft. The Family comprises four aircraft (A318, A319, A320 and A321) that share unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range.

The A321 is the largest member of the Airbus A320 Family. It typically seats 185 passengers in a two-class layout and has a non-stop flying range of 3,000 nautical miles or 5,550 kilometres. By the end of May 2009, almost 400 A320 Family aircraft are in operation with 12 operators in China. Chinese airlines have ordered close to 600 A320 Family aircraft in total.
