(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - June 8, 2014: (KARACHI) More than a dozen militants equipped with heavy weapons and grenades attacked Karachi airport on Sunday night, killing at least four security personnel, SAMAA reports. The attack took place at terminal 1. 

According to reports reaching here, miscreants entered from old terminal and started indiscriminate firing followed by grenades. The attack is ongoing at the airport in the sprawling port city on Pakistan's southern coast of Pakistan. 

Gunfire could be heard coming from the terminal as authorities scrambled to secure the area.

Five bodies were brought from the airport to Jinnah Hospital, along with one person who had been wounded, the Associated Press was told by Dr. Seemi Jamali at the hospital.

(NSI News Source Info) KOTTAKKAL, Kerala, India - October 29, 2013: In an apparent message to Iran, the Israeli military said Thursday it had carried out a “special long-range flight exercise” and posted rare footage of the drill online.

The military said its squadrons practiced refuelling planes in midair this week and tested the air force’s ability. The accompanying footage shows a tanker plane refuelling a fighter jet midair, a key part of any long-range operation.

The release of the video comes just days before Western powers are to open new talks with Iran over its disputed nuclear program.

The U.S. and its allies accuse Iran of using its civilian nuclear program as a cover to develop nuclear weapons. Israel has repeatedly warned that it would be willing to take military action if necessary to stop Iran from going nuclear.

The talks on Iran’s nuclear program will be held next week with the five permanent UN Security Council members — the U.S., Russia, China, Britain, France — plus Germany, collectively known as the P5+1.

President Barack Obama disclosed in an interview with The Associated Press last Friday that U.S. intelligence agencies believe Iran continues to be a year or more away from building a nuclear weapon, in contrast to Israel’s assessment that Tehran is closer.

In recent speeches, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned against letting Iran drag the world along for talks while it continues to pursue a bomb. He’s been on a media blitz of late to warn the West against President Hassan Rouhani’s softer tone, which he dismissed as a trick aimed at removing crippling economic sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear program.

Israeli military officials said the drill took place over Greece, a key regional ally. The military has done similar drills in the past but releasing the footage appears aimed at sending a message to Iran before the talks that a viable military options remains.

Israel views a nuclear-armed Iran as a threat to its very existence, citing Iran’s repeated calls for Israel’s destruction, its long-range missile program and its support for violent anti-Israel groups like the Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Since the UN General Assembly last month, Netanyahu has assured journalists in the United States that he supports President Barack Obama’s diplomatic overtures to Iran’s new president, Hassan Rouhani, while also calling him a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” not to be trusted.

Western powers suspect Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons, as it continues to enrich uranium well beyond the grade required for any civilian nuclear use.

The former senior official told the Post that Israeli intelligence assesses Saudi Arabia would not wait “a minute” after Iran acquires a nuclear weapon to build or buy one themselves, risking a nuclear arms race in the world’s least stable region.

“The Saudis have the missile technology already,” he said. “I’d be surprised if they don’t just take warheads from the Pakistanis. They’ve already paid for them.”

Emphasizing the importance of existing sanctions, the official said Iran would try to get the financial pressures lifted with as few concessions as possible.

While generally supportive of the prime minister’s policy, he said that the leadership of Israel’s intelligence community has repeatedly warned Netanyahu against striking and said that the tone of his speech to the UN last month was “a mistake.”


“He’s not the commander-in-chief,” he added. “But he can achieve consensus. And it can be done without leaks – it can be done.”....

“Bibi’s not bluffing,” said the retired senior official, who requested anonymity to speak freely. “He thinks it’s the 1930s. The Iranians are the Germans, and history has a sense of humor with six million Jews now in Israel.”

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - July 6, 2013: (POTISKUM, Nigeria) Islamic extremists have killed 29 students and one teacher in an attack on a boarding school in northeast Nigeria.

Survivors being treated for burn and gunshots wounds say some students were burned alive in the attack before dawn Saturday on Government Secondary School in Mamudo town in Yobe state.

As he wept over the bodies of his two boys, farmer Malam Abdullahi swore he would withdraw three remaining sons from a nearby school.

He complained there was no protection for students despite the deployment of thousands of troops since the government declared a state of emergency mid-May in three northeastern states.

Dozens of schools have been torched and unknown scores of students killed among more than 1,600 victims slain by extremists since 2010.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - June 26, 2013:  Afghan officials say a brazen Taliban assault on the presidential palace in Kabul has left three guards dead.

The militant group had earlier said that all eight attackers died in the early Tuesday attack on one of the most secure parts of the Afghan capital.

Militants with false papers and military-style uniforms bluffed their way through two checkpoints on their way to the palace before jumping out of their explosives-packed vehicle and opening fire on security personnel. 

Another carload of Taliban fighters got stuck between two checkpoints and detonated their own car bomb.

The Interior Ministry said a fourth guard was wounded.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - January 13, 2013: The Pakistani Taliban said on Saturday they would cease their occasional attacks on the Pakistani army in the Taliban stronghold of North Waziristan and concentrate attacks on Nato forces in Afghanistan instead – an announcement possibly designed to head off divisions in the insurgency.

The ceasefire does not apply to the rest of the country, where there are often fierce clashes between the Taliban and security services.

Thousands of Pakistani soldiers are stationed in North Waziristan, a tribal region along the Afghan border.

There have been occasional clashes there between the soldiers and Taliban, but a leaflet issued by Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud ordered those to stop. A senior commander confirmed the pamphlet’s veracity.

“O Mujahideen brothers! As you know, the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban under the leadership of Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid are engaged in jihad against the crusaders and infidels, and are supporters of each others in the ongoing holy war,” the pamphlet said.

“The enemy does not want to see us united and disciplined against them and are trying to divide us,” it continued.

The Taliban have formed alliances with a number of other militant groups in North Waziristan who are violently opposed to the Pakistani state.

DIVISIONS IN THE INSURGENCY

Some Taliban commanders are divided over whether the Pakistani state or Nato forces are their top target.

Those divisions were laid bare in November by an attempted suicide attack on Mullah Nazir, a top militant commander from the Wazir tribe in South Waziristan. He had signed a peace deal with the Pakistani army but supported attacks on Nato forces in Afghanistan.

The attack was widely believed to be the work of rival Taliban commanders, and the Wazir tribe ordered Hakimullah Mehsud’s tribe out of their lands.

Mullah Nazir was killed in a drone strike this month and it is unclear if his successor will continue his policies, or what relationship the Wazir tribe will have with the Mehsud tribe.

Pakistani army officials have also told Reuters that there are tensions between Mehsud and his deputy. The two men recently appeared together in a video to deny the allegations.

The decision to halt attacks against the Pakistani army in North Waziristan could signal the Pakistani Taliban’s intention to help the Afghan Taliban fight US-led Nato forces in the neighbouring country, or focus more closely on attacking Western targets inside Pakistan.

Or it could be more specifically aimed at unifying local factions. Mehsud’s statement specifically addressed both foreign fighters and local Taliban.

A Friday report by the semiofficial ISNA news agency quotes Gen. Farzad Esmaili, chief of air defence, as saying "we vow our enemies will not survive," if they attack Iran's nuclear sites.

The nuclear sites are a symbol of pride for Iran, he said, adding that "we will defend our dignity with our lives and blood."

The remarks come a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the world to draw a clear "red line" to stop Iran's nuclear program.

Israel has not ruled out military action against Iran's nuclear facilities.

Tehran denies the West's charge that it is pursuing nuclear weapons. It says its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes only.

Russia Warns Israel, U.S. Striking Iran Would Be 'Literally Disastrous'

Amid tension between Israel, U.S. over possible military action against Iran, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister warns strike would 'set off deep shocks' in the Middle East, and beyond.

Russia warned Israel and other nations not to attack Iran over its nuclear program, saying the use of force would be disastrous for the Middle East and have consequences far beyond the region, the Interfax news agency reported on Thursday.

"We warn those who are no strangers to military solutions ... that this would be harmful, literally disastrous for regional stability and would set off deep shocks in the security and economic spheres that would reverberate far beyond the boundaries of the Middle East region," Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov as saying.

Russia has long opposed a military solution for the Iranian nuclear conflict, while also strongly rejecting imposing harsh financial sanctions by the UN Security Council saying the measures punish banks, companies and shipping firms.

Russia says it supports the diplomatic efforts aimed at seeking an Iranian compromise concerning its nuclear aspirations.

As Iranians reel under the pressure of international sanctions, a Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said Washington’s unilateral sanction regime against Iran is a violation of international law.

Saying that Russia has found no evidence that Iran is intent on developing a weapon, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov warned the United States and Israel on the “disastrous” consequences of attacking Iran.

"We warn those who are no strangers to military solutions…that this would be harmful, literally disastrous for regional stability," Ryabkov told reporters on Thursday.
A military attack on Iran "would set off deep shocks in the security and economic spheres that would reverberate far beyond the boundaries of the Middle East region," he said.

Saying there were no indications of a weapon component to Tehran’s nuclear program, Ryabkov pushed for continuing monitoring by the UN nuclear agency was a strong guarantee.

"As before, we see no signs that there is a military dimension to Iran's nuclear program. No signs," Ryabkov, the head of Russia’s delegation on Iran, as saying.
Meanwhile, as Iranians reel under the pressure of international sanctions, the Russian diplomat said Washington’s unilateral sanction regime against Iran is a violation of international law.

"We cannot agree to the exterritorial use of US law, and this is what is actually happening in this very case,” Ryabkov said. “We consider such methods a gross violation of fundamental principles of international law."

The basis of international relations should never involve such practices, he added.
The diplomat was referring to measures approved by the US Congress on August 1, which punish banks, insurance companies, and transporters that help Tehran sell its oil on international markets.

The International Energy Agency estimates that Iranian oil imported by major consumers had fallen to one million barrels a day since the start of the year, a decline of more than a third.

Millions of Iranians are feeling the sting of sanctions, which have made it exceedingly difficult for Iranian companies to import raw materials. This has led to a cyclical effect that involves the mass closure of factories and, of course, layoffs. At the same time, banks are more hesitant to give loans to fledgling industries, while potential investors are shying away from the stock market.

Meanwhile, in the midst of this downturn, food prices and rental fees are increasingly dramatically.

According to a member of the International Law Council in Moscow, governments that impose their own sanctions on other states are acting in violation of the UN Charter.
“The main problem here is that the sanctions should be imposed by the Security Council of the UN, which plays major role in preserving international peace and security,” Dr. Vladimir Kotlyar told RT.  “In case there are no such decisions, it means the UN doesn't regard sanctions as an appropriate measure of preserving peace.”

If some state acts above those UN decisions…this state in fact ignores the UN Security Council position, Kotlyar added.

This grinding economic stagnation forced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad this week to admit that international sanctions are hurting the country's economy.
"There are barriers in transferring money, there are barriers in selling oil," he conceded in a live television talk show.

Ryabkov called the implementation of sanctions an “obsession” among an increasing number of state players.

"Unfortunately, the trend toward implementing sanctions for attaining ends…has become an obsession that responsible politicians on both sides of the Atlantic cannot overcome,” he said.

Ryabkov attributed this approach to resolving international problems to the “immaturity of policymakers,” to whom the lessons of life “cannot teach anything."

Russia, a permanent UN Security Council member with veto power, says it opposes further sanctions beyond the procedures approved in four Security Council resolutions, the latest in 2010.

The energy lanes of crude oil disrupted or stopped creating a shortage of products, rise of inflation and havoc in the world economy and not sparing a single country resulting in high unemployment in most developed countries and globally reflecting civic unrest. 

The above scenario could be feasible, but not factual as no country in the world would be ludicrous to act against Iran and devastate global economy. U.S. would get sucked into war if Israel strikes Iran.

Iran is a mature nation and sovereignty must be respected, in spite of what has happened on the nuclear factor with credit of being home to one of the world's oldest continuous major civilizations, with historical and urban settlements dating back to 4000 BC. The Medes unified Iran as a nation and empire in 625 BC. 

Had U.S. foreign policy been positive towards Iran, the account today would have different prospective relating to American forces involvement in Asia and Mid East countries.

a) Afghanistan; According to media reports Iran is supporting Taliban instead Iran would have contained the elements and NATO forces could peacefully exit by 2014. 
b) Iraq; With Iran assistance sectarian violence could be curtailed.
c) Syria; Iran influence would have brought Syria to the peace table and civil blood shed could have been avoided. 
d) Lebanon; Iran would have contained Hezbollah instead as of now supporting the elements. Israel could have maintained cordial relations with Iran and reflecting the repetition of bygone era of The Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in peaceful existence. 

Currently the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is in New York addressing the UN. It is a golden opportunity for Obama administration to extend an invitation to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the White House for peacefull resolution and eventually as mentioned the above factors stated will fall into place for the betterment of global peace and prosperity.

Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Aerospace Division of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) , warned on Sunday that an Israeli strike on Iran could trigger the World War III, Press TV reported.

Israel, threatening to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities these days, has always been highly concerned over Iran's nuclear program, which is believed by the West to head for acquiring nuclear weapons under the cover of civilian purposes.

Iran has insisted that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, and warned that it will retaliate if it comes under attack.

Hajizadeh said in case of the eruption of such a war against Iran, the situation would be out of control, according to Press TV.

"This war is likely to degenerate into the World War III," Hajizadeh said, adding that it means some countries might enter the war in favor of or against Iran.

"We see the United States and the Zionist regime (of Israel) alongside one another and we can by no means imagine that the Zionist regime would initiate a war (against Iran) without the U.S. support," he was quoted as saying.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the U.S. bases in the region as part of American soil and will definitely target them if a war breaks out," he added.

On Saturday, Iran's Commander of the IRGC, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, said that a war on Iran "will eventually happen," Press TV reported.

"War will happen but it is not clear where and when," Jafari said, adding that Iran is ready to confront any possible strike against the country.

The Israeli officials currently consider war as the only way to confront Iran, he claimed, insisting that if they begin a war, it will spell their destruction and will be the end of their adventure.

The Iranian commander said that the armed forces of the Islamic republic enjoy capabilities and equipment in hardware and software fields, according to the report.

Also, Hossein Salami, another IRGC commander, reiterated the remarks by Jafari on Sunday that "Iran will obliterate the Zionist regime if the latter takes any action against Iran," the official IRNA news agency reported.

Salami said Iran does not initiate war against any country but in case it is attacked by any country it will never stop its counterattack till the annihilation of the enemy.

Also on Sunday, Press TV reported that Iran's Air Force plans to hold a massive military maneuver in the southern parts of the country by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 2013).

"Maneuvers to be carried out by Iran are peaceful and indicate that Iran and regional countries are capable of safeguarding their security," Deputy Commander of Iran's Air Force, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, was quoted as saying.

Nasirzadeh said that the presence of non-regional powers in the Persian Gulf is "illegitimate" and emphasized that there is no necessity for such a presence.

Non-regional powers cannot provide regional states with security, he said, adding that the countries in the region can ensure their security if they cooperate with each other.

According to IRNA, IRGC will also hold a 15,000-man maneuver in Shahr-e-Rey district of Tehran city for two days from September 27- 28.

IRGC Commander in charge of the operations, General Nasiri told IRNA that the exercises aim to raise combat readiness of the ground forces.

Nasiri said that the troops will conduct shooting, night war, relief and rescue operations, said the report.

TEHRAN, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian navy commander said that Iran's Armed Forces fully are monitoring the naval exercises of the United States and its allies in the Persian Gulf, Press TV reported on Friday.

Iran launches submarine, destroyer as U.S. continues drill in Persian Gulf

TEHRAN, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Navy launched the overhauled super-heavy submarine and indigenous destroyer on Tuesday as the United States and its allies continued military drills in the Persian Gulf for the third day.

EU foreign policy chief meets Iranian negotiator on nuclear issue

ISTANBUL, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- EU foreign affairs representative Catherine Ashton held talks withIran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili here on Tuesday in a bid to end the standoff over the Iranian nuclear program.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - August 18, 2012:  A former deputy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday a pre-emptive military strike against Iran over its nuclear program could embroil Israel in a "disastrous war".

Shaul Mofaz, a parliamentary opposition leader who quit Netanyahu's cabinet last month where he served as vice premier, said on Israeli television he thought Israel was "planning a hasty, irresponsible event".

The former general and defense minister said he thought Israel could not do anything to force a strategic change in Iran's nuclear program, which the West suspects is aimed at producing atomic weapons. Tehran says it is for peaceful purposes.

As a member of Netanyahu's security cabinet for two months, Mofaz was privy to deliberations on Iran's nuclear program.

He told Channel 2 television in a studio interview that any Israeli military action "can at the most delay it (Iran's program) by about a year, and it can bring upon us a disastrous war".

Naming both Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, he said he was "very worried at what they are preparing". He added: "I hope very much we don't reach such a war because it would be a disaster."

Days after he quit the cabinet late in July in a dispute about military conscription policy, Mofaz, who heads the centrist Kadima party, cautioned he would not back any Israeli military "adventures".

His comments echoed those of other former Israeli security officials who have spoken against any unilateral attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, with some saying such an assault could spur Tehran to speed up uranium enrichment.

Some officials have also voiced concern that any strike could prompt Iran's proxies in the region, such as Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon, to launch rocket attacks on Israel.

Israel, widely believed to be the only atomic power in the Middle East, views Iran's nuclear program as an existential threat, citing threats made by leaders of the Islamist nation to destroy the Jewish state.

There has been an upsurge in rhetoric from Israeli politicians this month suggesting Israel might attack Iran's nuclear facilities ahead of U.S. presidential elections in November.

Netanyahu is frustrated that Western diplomacy to try to force Iran to rein in its program has so far proved fruitless. Reported intelligence leaks that Tehran has been accelerating rather than scaling back its program have added to tensions.

However senior Israeli officials have said that a final decision about whether to attack Iran has not yet been taken, with ministers disagreeing over the issue and the military hierarchy unhappy about the prospect of going it alone without full U.S. backing.
