The Light Combat Vehicle, Redefined
The Oshkosh L-ATV is designed to keep Warfighters safe as battlefield threats evolve. The vehicle's crew protection system has been extensively tested and proven to optimize protection, weight and mobility. The L-ATV can accept multiple armor configurations so it can easily be adapted to changing operational requirements.

The L-ATV also uses the Oshkosh TAK-4i™ intelligent independent suspension system, building on the success of the TAK-4 family of suspensions used on more than 20,000 military vehicles. The TAK-4i system is tailored for high-performance, lightweight vehicles to give Warfighters unprecedented mobility in severe off-road terrain. It uses an advanced Oshkosh technology to deliver 20 inches of independent wheel travel; 25 percent more than any vehicle fielded with the U.S. military today.

Oshkosh's innovative L-ATV delivers expanded power capabilities, greater fuel efficiency and integrated diagnostics compared to legacy engine technologies. (NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - March 28, 2012: Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), will produce more than 2,500 additional Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles(FMTV) trucks and trailers for the U.S. Army following an order from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC). The Army has now ordered more than 29,000 FMTV trucks and trailers from Oshkosh.

“Over the first three years of this five-year contract, we have delivered superior-quality trucks and trailers for soldiers for their combat operations, relief efforts and unit-resupply missions at home and abroad,” said Mike Ivy, vice president and general manager of Army Programs for Oshkosh Defense. “We will continue to offer fleet improvements by developing prototypes with upgraded technology, such as our TAK-4® independent suspension system that improves off-road mobility, ride quality and protection capabilities.”

Oshkosh Defense’s rigorous production and quality processes ensure on-time delivery of high-quality trucks and trailers. The FMTV is a series of 17 models ranging from 2.5-ton to 10-ton payloads. Vehicles have a parts commonality of more than 80 percent, resulting in streamlined maintenance, training, sustainment and overall cost efficiency.

This is the latest order under the five-year FMTV contract awarded to Oshkosh Defense for the production of trucks and trailers, as well as support services and training, through calendar year 2015. The order is valued at more than $294 million and deliveries are scheduled to be completed in February 2014.

Rigorous Development
Oshkosh committed significant resources for light vehicle research and development to produce the L-ATV. In preparation for the JLTV EMD phase, six generations of Oshkosh light vehicles were developed to respond to evolving requirements. Oshkosh’s L-ATV designs have been verified through extensive JLTV mission-profile testing. Notably, an L-ATV prototype called the LCTV completed the 1,061-mile Baja 1000 off-road race in the unforgiving terrain of the Mexican desert, demonstrating its unprecedented performance capabilities and reliability.

FPI issued the supply order for engineering and technical support following two contracts awarded from the MRAP Joint Program Office. The contracts for Oshkosh engineering and installation support will be performed at the MRAP Sustainment Facility in Kuwait and sent to the Afghan theater of operation. Engineers installing the Oshkosh TAK-4 suspension upgrade kits will equip Cougars with the same off-road mobility offered on more than 10,000 Oshkosh Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVR). The suspension kits were awarded under a previous contract and include the TAK-4 proprietary suspension system, an advanced Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS), run-flat tires, steering and brake systems, and other component upgrades. “The Oshkosh TAK-4 independent suspension system brings something to the table no one else can provide – unsurpassed off-road mobility,” said Andy Hove, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Defense. “Increased mobility translates beyond greater speeds and less-fatigued warfighters – it increases survivability because these vehicles are no longer restricted to the often dangerous road networks in Afghanistan.” Vehicles outfitted with Oshkosh’s TAK-4 independent suspension system benefit from:

• Increased vehicle mobility – 16 inches of independent wheel travel provide advanced off-road capabilities in the most rugged terrain of Afghanistan

• Improved ride quality – shock and vibration are greatly reduced resulting in mission-ready soldiers and Marines and minimal component damage

• Greater off-road speeds – speed off-road is almost triple that of straight axle vehicles improving mobility as well as survivability

• Lower life-cycle costs – more than 75 percent of the parts are common with the U.S. Marine Corps MTVR for improved reliability, as well as streamlined availability and training. In testing of early-fielded Cougars upgraded with TAK-4, the customer determined the enhancement significantly improved the vehicle’s mobility. Based on this successful testing, Oshkosh worked with FPI to develop a field-installable kit to upgrade the vehicle. The advanced suspension system, which has undergone more than 400,000 miles of government testing, is also featured on the MRAP-All Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV), the U.S. Army’s Palletized Load System (PLS A1) as well as the U.S. Marine Corps’ MTVR and Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR). More than 1,500 Cougars are being equipped with the Oshkosh TAK-4 independent suspension through a separate contract, and the company continues to work with the military to evaluate using it on additional MRAP models. Proven combat survivability is the key to sending personnel out with a go anywhere, do anything and get home to tell about it attitude. The advanced ballistic and blast-protected MRAP Cat I Cougar boasts an outstanding occupant survival rate. The Cougar 4x4, which can transport up to six passengers plus equipment, has been a workhorse for the U.S. Marine Corps combat engineers in Iraq since 2004. The Cougar is the paragon of troop transports in Iraq and Afghanistan, where it has withstood literally thousands of IED/landmine attacks. As for the survivability of the Cougar itself, not only is the vehicle built to drive into danger, its reparability typically allows it to return to service within a matter of hours. (NSI News Source Info) OSHKOSH, Wis. — April 12, 2009: Oshkosh Corporation announced April 9., that its Defense business received a $122 million order to supply its TAK-4® independent suspension system for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. The supply order was issued by Force Protection Incorporated (FPI) as a result of a contract action from the MRAP Joint Program Office (JPO).

The order will equip MRAP 4x4 and 6x6 axle configuration vehicles with the Oshkosh® TAK-4 system for improved off-road mobility. Under the purchase order, Oshkosh will provide the military with its patented TAK-4 independent suspension upgrade kits for installation on existing MRAP vehicles. This same innovative Oshkosh independent suspension system is featured on over 10,000 Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) chassis for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The MTVR is renowned for its survivability and off-road capability in severe environments, including conducting missions on Afghanistan's rugged terrain while maintaining high readiness rates. “The Oshkosh TAK-4 system has undergone more than 400,000 miles of government durability testing and will significantly improve the off-road mobility of MRAP vehicles.

The Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) and MRAP JPO tested early-fielded MRAPs upgraded with TAK-4 and determined the enhancement significantly improved the vehicle's mobility. Based on this successful testing, Oshkosh worked with FPI to develop a field installable kit to upgrade the vehicle.
