(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - August 20, 2015: Defense contractors competing for a contract to build the U.S. military’s replacement to the iconic Humvee are eagerly awaiting a decision from the Army.

Humvee-maker AM General, truck-maker Oshkosh Corp. and defense contracting giant Lockheed Martin Corp. are vying to begin production of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, or JLTV.

An announcement on which company will be chosen to build the first 17,000 production models of the vehicle is expected either this week or next, sources told Military​.com.

Overall, the Army and the Marine Corps plan to buy a total of 54,720 JLTVs to replace about a third of the Humvee fleet at an estimated cost of more than $30 billion, or about $559,000 per vehicle, according to Pentagon budget documents.

That figure, which rose from earlier estimates, includes expenses for research and development, overhead and add-on equipment such as radios, weapons and armor. Officials have said the cost of manufacturing the vehicle alone will be about $250,000.

The companies submitted their final bids to the Army in February. Each of the firms previously delivered 22 prototypes for testing under an earlier contract.

Over the past decade, the Pentagon spent nearly $50 billion buying 25,000 or so of the bigger, mine-resistant ambush protected, or MRAP, vehicles as part of a rapid-acquisition effort spearheaded by then-Defense Secretary Robert Gates to better protect troops from roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Thousands of the hulking vehicles were subsequently scrapped, mothballed or handed down to local police departments because the military never intended them to be a permanent part of the tactical wheeled vehicle fleet.

Now, the Army and Marine Corps are trying to incorporate some of the lessons learned from the wars into a lighter vehicle. “As we move forward, it will be a central piece of the Army,” former Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno said in June of the JLTV.

The Light Combat Vehicle, Redefined

(NSI News Source Info) SINGAPORE - December 4, 2012: Oshkosh Defense, Oshkosh, Wis., is being awarded $13,897,265 for fixed-price delivery order #0018 under previously awarded indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract (M67854-12-D-0209). 

This delivery order is issued for the purchase of fiscal 2013 medium tactical vehicle replacement engineering change proposal kits, reducible height armor kits, and 300 Amp Alternators for the Navy Seabees. 

Contract funds in the amount of $13,879,265 will be obligated at the time of award.  Work will be performed in Oshkosh, Wis. (89 percent) and Israel (11 percent), and work for this delivery order is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2013.

Oshkosh will also have its Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV), which was selected for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase, at the show.

The vehicle is available in multiple weight and protection configurations.

Delivering the Oshkosh JLTV Solution
Oshkosh received a contract in August to deliver 22 Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV) prototypes for the JLTV EMD phase, as well as to support government testing and evaluation of the vehicles. The joint services are expected to replace tens of thousands of HMMWVs with the JLTV.

This delivery order is issued for the purchase of 207 Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) production cargo vehicles for the Marine Corps, 60 MTVR cargo vehicles for the Navy Seabees, Nonrecurring Engineering, and Federal Retail Excise Tax for 299 cargo vehicles.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - August 23, 2012: The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), a contract for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program’s Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase.  The JLTV program aims to replace many of the U.S. military’s aged HMMWVs with a lightweight vehicle that offers greater protection, mobility and transportability.

“The JLTV program is critical to supporting our troops who stand in harm’s way and deserve the best equipment that industry can provide,” said John Urias, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Oshkosh Defense.  “The Oshkosh JLTV solution will allow the Army and Marine Corps to provide unprecedented levels of protection and off-road mobility in a light vehicle – so that their troops can accomplish their missions and return home safely.”

JLTV is managed by the Joint U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps program, under the leadership of the U.S. Army's Program Executive Office for Combat Support and Combat Service Support (PEO CS&CSS).  Under the contract, Oshkosh will deliver 22 Oshkosh-designed and manufactured JLTV prototypes within 365 days of contract award, and support government testing and evaluation of the prototypes.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - June 8, 2012: Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), will exhibit its Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV), the Oshkosh HEMTT A4 vehicle, which is the base vehicle for the Company’s MSVS SMP submission, and a cargo truck from its proven Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) at CANSEC in Ottawa, May 30-31.

The Oshkosh TAPV was designed to provide industry-leading off-road mobility and crew protection for a variety of missions.  With fully integrated life cycle sustainment provided by Oshkosh Defense and General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, the Oshkosh TAPV solution optimizes vehicle performance and operating costs. The Oshkosh TAPV leverages the combat proven Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) platform and industry-leading TAK-4® independent suspension system to provide a 70 percent off-road mission profile.

The Oshkosh Defense MSVS SMP is designed around the battle-tested Oshkosh HEMTT A4, which uses a high-performance drive train and advanced suspension. Tailored to the needs of Canadian Forces, the Oshkosh MSVS SMP can provide proven reliability and protection for a wide range of Canadian Army logistics operations.

The Oshkosh MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) Special Forces Vehicle (SFV) and SandCat Tactical Protector Vehicle (TPV) will be in Oshkosh booth B650.

Vehicles on Display

The SFV variant is part of the M-ATV family of vehicles, which is designed to support the most challenging tactical operations in rugged and mountainous off-road terrain. The proven vehicle combines best-in-class off-road mobility and high levels of protection. The M-ATV SFV features alterations specific to the needs of special forces, including a modified cargo deck, intended to accept specialized equipment based on each mission’s requirements, and larger front windscreens for increased visibility. Oshkosh has received awards to date for nearly 8,700 M-ATVs, including more than 460 SFV variants, as well as spare parts kits, upgrade kits and aftermarket support.

The SandCat TPV is part of the Oshkosh SandCat family of vehicles and can be configured to meet individual performance, protection and payload needs. The vehicle’s armor system can be customized based on the threat level and mission profile, and seating capacity can be adjusted to accommodate up to nine passengers. The vehicle also can be equipped with standard or customized storage, and is typically integrated with a wide array of weapons and communications systems. The SandCat TPV’s compact design, combined with a 45.7 centimeter vertical step capability and 12.7 meter curb-to-curb turning circle, enables mobility in both tight urban settings and rugged rural landscapes.
