(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - March 18, 2013: Boeing (NYSE: BA) has rolled out the first Next-Generation 737 built at the new production rate of 38 airplanes a month. Panamanian customer Copa Airlines will take delivery of the 737-800 in early April.
The airplane will now undergo functional, systems and flight testing over the next three weeks before being delivered.

Boeing is in the process of increasing the production rate on its 737 program from 35 to 38 airplanes per month because of market demand for the world's best-selling commercial jetliner. Next year, the 737 production rate will increase to 42 airplanes per month.
Copa Airlines operates a fleet of more than 50 Next-Generation 737s.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom, July 9, 2012: A Korean Air Next-Generation 737-900ER (Extended Range), featuring Boeing's innovative Sky Interior, was the second Boeing [NYSE: BA] airplane to arrive at this year's Farnborough International Airshow.

"We are proud to partner with industry-leading Korean Air to show off their 737-900ER here at the 2012 Farnborough International Airshow," said Beverly Wyse, vice present and general manager of the 737 program, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
 "Boeing takes great pride in knowing Korean Air is using the Sky Interior to deliver a more comfortable travel experience for its customers."

"The 737 Boeing Sky Interior is helping airlines like Korean Air to differentiate themselves from their competitors," Wyse said. 
"Passengers instantly see and feel the difference." Those differences include sculpted sidewalls and window reveals, LED lighting, larger stow bins and more intuitive placement of attendant call and light buttons.

Korean Air currently operates four 737-900ERs as well as a combination of 34 737-800s and -900s in its single-aisle fleet. The airline's fleet consists of 87 Boeing commercial jetliners. Korean Air took delivery of this airplane in May 2012.

The 737-900ER, which was called the 737-900X prior to launch, is the newest addition and the largest variant of the Boeing 737 line and was introduced to meet the range and passenger capacity of the discontinued 757-200 and to directly compete with the Airbus A321.

An additional pair of exit doors and a flat rear pressure bulkhead increase seating capacity to 180 passengers in a 2-class configuration or 215 passengers in a single-class layout. Additional fuel capacity and standard winglets improve range to that of other 737NG variants.

The first 737-900ER was rolled out of the Renton, Washington factory on August 8, 2006 for its launch customer, Lion Air. Lion Air received this aircraft on April 27, 2007 in a special dual paint scheme combining the Lion Air lion on the vertical stabilizer and the Boeing livery colors on the fuselage. Lion Air has orders for 166 737-900ERs as of August 2011.

On August 22, 2011, it was reported that Delta Air Lines had placed an order for 100 737-900ERs, the largest single order for the type.

A total of 52 -900s, 82 -900ERs, and 6 -900 BBJs have been delivered with 183 unfilled orders as of January 2011.

The Los Angeles-based leasing company took delivery of a Next-Generation 737-800, which will be leased from ALC and operated by Korean Air.

The 737-800 is the best-selling version of the successful Next-Generation 737 family. (NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada / BALI, Indonesia - November 19, 2011: Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Jakarta-based Lion Air today announced a commitment for the airline to order 201 737 MAXs and 29 Next-Generation 737-900 ERs (extended range). The agreement also includes purchase rights for an additional 150 airplanes.

"The 737 MAX will be the future of Lion Air," said Rusdi Kirana, Lion Air Founder and President Director. "The highly efficient, technologically advanced airplane will help Lion Air continue to bring low fares and allow us to open new destinations because of the longer range of the airplane."

With 230 airplanes at a list price of $21.7 billion, this deal when finalized will be the largest commercial airplane order ever in Boeing's history by both dollar volume and total number of airplanes. Boeing and Lion Air are working to finalize details of the agreement, at which time it will be a firm order posted on the Boeing Orders and Deliveries website. Lion Air will also acquire purchase rights for an additional 150 airplanes valued at more than $14 billion if exercised at list prices.

U.S. President Barack Obama witnessed the announcement at a ceremony today at the East Asia Summit in Bali, Indonesia.

"We're proud that Lion Air picked the 737 once again, building on our successful partnership," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Jim Albaugh. "Lion Air was a leader when it was the launch customer for the 737-900ER in 2005 and today it continues to be a leader as the first airline in Asia to commit to the 737 MAX."

The 737 MAX is a new engine variant of the world's best selling airplane and builds on the strengths of today's Next-Generation 737. The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP 1-B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and appeal.

Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see a 10-12 percent fuel burn improvement over today's most fuel efficient single-aisle airplanes and a 7 percent operating cost advantage over tomorrow's competition.

"Our customers tell us they want more efficient airplanes," said Ray Conner, senior vice president of Sales and Customer Support, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The 737 MAX will deliver fuel savings better than any competing single-aisle airplane on the market."

To date, the 737 MAX has commitments for more than 700 airplanes, while the Next-Generation 737 family has won orders for more than 6,000 airplanes and Boeing has delivered more than 3,800.

Lion Air, Indonesia's largest private airline, currently operates or has on order a total of 178 Next-Generation 737s.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Turkish Airlines (THY) have announced the Istanbul-based carrier has exercised options for 15 Next-Generation 737s. The order, comprised of 10 737-800s and 5 737-900ERs, has an average list-price value of more than $1.2 billion.

Boeing has received orders from 14 customers for a total of 305 737-900ERs, the newest member of the 737 family. The higher capacity, longer-range derivative of the 737-900 was launched in July 2005. The 737-900ER offers 6 percent lower operating costs per trip and 4 percent lower operating costs per seat mile than competing models.

Boeing will deliver all of Turkish Airlines new Next-Generation 737s with the innovative Boeing Sky Interior. The new interior introduces larger overhead stowage bins with a new pivoting design that provides more open space in the cabin.

Passengers will enjoy soft blue sky overhead simulated by light-emitting diode (LED) lighting. The new interior also features modern, sculpted sidewalls and window reveals to draw passengers' eyes to the view outside the window, as well as cove lighting and curving architecture.

"Today's 737 order is another important step in our partnership with Turkish Airlines," said Marlin Dailey, vice president of Sales & Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The new Boeing Sky Interior, combined with the 737's industry-leading reliability and superior operating efficiency, provides the perfect tool for Turkish Airlines to continue its successful network expansion."

"These new Boeing 737 aircraft will help us to reach even more cities and build a truly global network," said Turkish Airlines CEO, Dr. Temel Kotil. "We are very eager to have these new aircraft join the Turkish Airlines fleet—increasing efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort."

Today's operators fly 737s that are 5 percent more fuel efficient than the first Next-Generation 737s and additional improvements are on the way. Boeing's performance improvement package will boost fuel efficiency a further 2 percent through aerodynamic and engine changes. The improvements to the airframe and engine are expected to be in service between mid-2011 and early 2012 and will be incorporated into the 15 aircraft ordered by THY.
