INDONESIA AND CHINA ON TUESDAY AGREED TO STRENGTHEN THEIR DEFENSE COOPERATION, INCLUDING THE JOINT PRODUCTION OF MISSILES, THE ANTARA NEWS AGENCY REPORTED.

Indonesian Deputy Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Chen Qiufa, head of the Chinese Technological and Industrial Development Agency signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the technical cooperation in the defense sector.
The agreement includes the supplying of military equipments, transfer of technology of certain military equipment, joint-marketing, and training programs, according to Brig.Gen. Wayan Midhio, spokesman for the Defense Minsitry.
Indonesia and China also agreed on establishing a joint-missile production in the future through strategic weaponry industry. The Indonesian army currently uses Chinese made missiles.
The Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) equipped some of its warships with the Chinese C-802 rockets. China is recognized worldwide for it successful development of military equipment.
The Asian giant has been able to develop a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) called Dong Feng 21 (DF-21), which is two-stage, solid-propellant, single-warhead system.
On Thursday, Indonesia announced that it plans to produce 1,000 R122 rockets to support its defense system through the Technology Assessment and Application Agency.
The project would be carried out from 2012 to 2014, time in which the Indonesian government also plans to develop a "remote pilot vehicle" and an "area vehicle" as well.

(NSI News Source Info) NEW DELHI, India - September 12, 2010: India and Russia on Thursday agreed to set up a joint venture to manufacture a military transport plane. Under the deal, each party will pay $300.35 million to the JV's charter capital. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and United Aircraft Building Company expected to sign a deal in March during Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi, but India failed to get the paperwork ready and the signing was delayed. Manufacturing facilities will be set up both in Russia and in India. A total of 205 planes are to be made, 30% of which may be exported to third countries. Russia and India signed an intergovernmental agreement on the joint development and manufacturing of the Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) in 2007. The first MTA is expected to make its maiden flight in 2016-18.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - August 19, 2010: Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac said in Beijing after meeting with Chinese Minister of National Defence General Liang Guanglie that there is close cooperation between the armed forces of Serbia and China, but noted that there is always room for improvement of relations.
Sutanovac stated that Serbia received assurances that the Chinese Army will continue to support reforms in the Serbian Army and will continue to grant funds according to the situation.
He outlined that the meeting was also dedicated to the cooperation of Serbia and China in the arms industry, and expressed confidence that there are opportunities for joint ventures in this area and that such military equipment could be offered to other countries.
After the meeting, representatives of the defence ministries signed a grant contract by which the Chinese Army is to present computer equipment worth €500,000 to the Serbian Army.
Sutanovac also visited the air base of the 24th Air Division in Tianjin where an air show was organised for the guests from Serbia.
The delegation of the Serbian Ministry of Defence was among the first foreign delegations that was shown the manoeuvrability of the Chinese multi-role combat aircraft J-10.
Sutanovac affirmed that China has shown that it can make sophisticated military equipment that can be used in Serbia too, but also to offer it to countries that traditionally buy weapons from Serbia.
He confirmed that soon four Serbian Army officers will travel to China to study, and that in September two Chinese officers will arrive in Belgrade to attend Serbian language courses and school for command-staff training.
Serbia can offer cooperation in the field of military education and at the Military Medical Academy and wants to make use of the experience that China has had in the field of peacekeeping operations, he added.Sutanovac expressed his wish that Serbian Army officers visit the Chinese Centre for peacekeeping missions.
Guanglie pointed to the improvement of military relations between the two countries and expressed gratitude for Serbia’s support to the One-China policy.
He noted that China is ready to make a joint effort with Serbia in order to strengthen further development of their bilateral strategic partnership.
Guanglie invited the armed forces of the two countries to continue to strengthen ties and find new areas of cooperation.
Sutanovac will continue his visit to China by visiting the military academy for special units of the Chinese Army, after which he will travel to Shanghai.

Since the Kargil conflict in 1999, Israel has emerged as the second largest defence supplier to India, with annual sales estimated at $1 billion (Rs4,600 crore). The state-owned firm plans to use its India joint venture facility to source some locally made materials, mandatory for all overseas defence supplies and known as offsets. “This is will be our first joint venture. Part of the offsets that we have to provide in India will be in this joint venture,” said Lova Drori, executive vice-president, marketing, Rafael, on the sidelines of the sixth land and naval defence systems DefExpo 2010 show in the Capital. With around two dozen firms, Israel’s presence is among the biggest at the expo. As many as 650 firms from 23 countries, excluding China and Pakistan, are present at the show. A BEL executive said his firm is in discussions with Rafael regarding the joint venture. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorised to speak with the media. “Missiles developed here use command guidance. You can have a radar that can send signals for command guidance. At present that is what is done in Akash,” the official said. “Seekers have been tried in India for Nag missiles. But (more) mature technologies will be helpful as well.” The executive was referring to a seeker, which is a missile guidance device aboard an interceptor missile that searches for and homes in on a target. BEL will hold a 74% stake in the venture and Rafael will own the rest, Drori said, adding that the companies would soon seek government approval on this. He also said that the proposed facility will eventually be scaled up to develop new technologies in missile seekers depending on the projects it can secure from India. Once approved, the factory will be located near an existing campus of BEL, which has facilities in Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad. Drori said his firm is not looking at a 49% participation in the joint venture as it feels the Indian government may not allow that. “We do not want to do that. Its unachievable. The government will not approve. We will be happy with 26%,” he said.

(NSI News Source Info) NEW DELHI - January 7, 2009: India has approved 34 foreign direct investment proposals worth 16.15 billion rupees ($332.3 million), including that of vehicle maker Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, the finance ministry said on Wednesday.
The government, however, again deferred a proposal by News Corp-controlled Dow Jones Co to publish facsimile editions of newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal, in the country, the ministry said in a statement.
Mahindra's proposal to set up a joint venture for land defence systems, with foreign investment of 289.4 million rupees was approved, it said.
The Indian firm and BAE Systems have a joint venture to build such equipment in the country.
