(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - October 22, 2012: Germany is warning Britain that its threat to veto the European Union’s new budget will force Berlin to cancel next month’s EU budget summit.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has threatened to veto any agreement on the EU’s new seven-year budget other than a complete spending freeze. 

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has reportedly decided that holding talks on the 2014-2020 budget while Britain is almost certain to veto it is pointless, The Financial Times reported. 

A veto will further outrage EU members after Cameron also vetoed an EU-wide financial agreement to help the eurozone crisis back in December and forced the other 26 nations to sign the pact without Britain. 

EU officials are now warning that the second veto can seriously damage diplomatic ties between the 27-member bloc and Britain. 

Merkel has reportedly raised the subject in a telephone conversation with Cameron last Monday. 

Cameron openly said earlier this month that “If there isn’t a deal that’s good for Britain, there won’t be a deal.” 

However, Merkel is apparently trying to persuade him to back her government’s proposal for the EU spending to be capped at one percent of European gross domestic product.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - October 21, 2012: Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra, who gave Indian cinema path breaking movies, passed away in Mumbai on Sunday evening.

The producer- director was suffering from dengue and after being diagnosed he was admitted to Lilavati hospital last week.

Chopra reportedly fell ill on October 10, upon returning home from superstar Amitabh Bachchan's birthday party.

Yash Chopra was on life support-system for some time now. According to hospital reports Mr Chopra suffered from multiple organ failure.

Yash Raj Films issued a statement to the media, saying: "Yash Chopraji breathed his last at around 5.30pm today (IST). Details of his last rites will be communicated later."

The 80 year old legend was working on his up coming movie 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' and announced his retirement after the movie.

After the filmmaker was admitted speculations were rife about his movie being delayed. 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' will remain his unfinished movie as he was yet to shoot a romantic song between lead actor Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.

Great loss to Indian cinema

Film director Subhash Ghai said to media: "It's a great loss to Indian cinema. Yashji had always said he wants to die making films.

"He was full of energy; an inspiration truly."

Regarded as the country's king of celluloid romance, Chopra has also proved his mettle with intensely emotional and tragic movies, many of which went on to become box-office blockbusters.

Born in 1932 in Lahore, now in Pakistan, the film-maker was favoured by leading Indian actors with his movies seen as a sure-fire way to become a hit with audiences.

Chopra has made some of Indian cinema's most memorable films such as Deewar, Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila and Chandni. His flamboyant style of film-making, movies filmed in exotic locales and mellifluous music became a hallmark, endearing him to filmgoers.

Chiffon sarees and the Swiss Alps are so synonymous with Chopra's style of film-making that Switzerland Tourism even offered visitors a guided tour of the places where the director filmed some of his most famous songs and scenes.

Riding on his success, Chopra established Yash Raj Films, one of Bollywood's biggest production houses, churning out at least three movies a year. In November, the film studio announced its foray into Hollywood, signing on actors such as Nicole Kidman and Jason Bateman for its overseas productions.

Chopra also produced Indian cinema's longest-running blockbuster, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), which marked the debut of his son Aditya as director.

"I have never made romantic films. I have made films on human relations, and humans are complicated people," Chopra said in a recent interview.

*Northrop Grumman Global Hawk RQ-4

The Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Block 10 Global Hawk is currently supporting the U.S. Air Force in the global war on terrorism. During 2006, two air systems logged more than 8,000 combat hours conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. The Global Hawks are operated overseas by USAF pilots from a mission control element stationed at Beale Air Force Base in Northern California. A launch and recovery element and a combined USAF and Northrop Grumman team are forward deployed with the air systems. The Global Hawk is equipped with electro-optical, infrared and synthetic aperture radar sensors to provide high-quality real-time imagery.

Specifications:
Few aircraft have shown such utility and deployment capability so early in flight testing. Global Hawk's autonomous high-altitude, long-endurance (HALE) flight characteristics are proven. The air vehicle flies at altitudes up to 65,000 feet for up to 35 hours at speeds approaching 340 knots. It can image an area the size of the state of Illinois in just one mission. During its trials with the Air Force's 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron and during its first deployment in Operation Enduring Freedom, the Global Hawk system was shown to be flexible and dynamically re-taskable.

Global Hawk Maritime Demonstration:
Two Block 10 Global Hawks are currently being used in the U.S. Navy's Global Hawk Maritime Demonstration (GHMD) program. Stationed at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md., the air systems are being used to help define the concept of operations for maritime surveillance. The GHMD has participated in naval exercises including Trident Warrior '05, Rimpac '06, and the congressionally directed demonstration.

Historical Program Objective:
Global Hawk has its origins in the 1995 High-Altitude Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Advanced Concept Technology Demonstrator (HAE UAV ACTD) program initiated by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and Defense Airborne Reconnaissance Office (DARO). The Global Hawk effort succeeded because it focused on the design and construction of a practical air vehicle that was developmentally mature enough to be transitioned into an operational weapons system.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - October 16, 2012: - Boeing [NYSE: BA] this week begins assembling the first refueling boom for the U.S. Air Force's next-generation aerial refueling tanker aircraft in the KC-46 Boom Assembly Center that opened today at Boeing Field in Seattle.


"We're pleased that this facility opened on schedule," said Maureen Dougherty, KC-46 vice president and program manager for Boeing. "The KC-46A will feature a modernized fly-by-wire boom based on the proven system on the U.S. Air Force's KC-10 tanker, which will give it advanced refueling capabilities, allowing it to refuel any fixed-wing receiver aircraft anytime and on any mission."

Boom assembly marks the program's shift to production from design activities.

"It's a big day for the KC-46 Tanker Program and the U.S. Air Force," said Maj. Gen. John Thompson, U.S. Air Force Tanker Program Executive Officer and KC-46 Program Director. "Boeing continues to make good progress toward delivering the KC-46 Tanker on schedule."

The first boom will enter testing during the third quarter of 2013 at a System Integration Lab (SIL), known as SIL 0. It is one of five labs designed to reduce risk for avionics and aerial refueling integration. Boeing invented the air refueling boom and has been building, upgrading and modifying them for more than 60 years.

Boeing's KC-46 program remains on track to deliver 18 combat-ready tankers by 2017, and for the next major Air Force contract milestone, the Critical Design Review, scheduled for the summer of 2013.

Production of the KC-46 aircraft begins next summer in Boeing's Everett, Wash., factory. The aircraft will be a 767-2C variant of the commercial 767-200ER airplane. Boeing will build 179 next-generation aerial refueling tanker aircraft to begin replacing the Air Force's aging KC-135 tankers.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - October 16, 2012: Boeing [NYSE: BA] will continue assuring the worldwide availability of C-17 aircraft, which provide vital military and humanitarian airlift capability, through a $2 billion follow-on contract it recently received from the U.S. Department of Defense.

The C-17 Globemaster III Integrated Sustainment Program (GISP) provides support services such as forecasting, purchasing and material management for the C-17 and all C-17-unique support. This Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) program, which started in 1998 with 42 aircraft, now covers 246 worldwide. It provides lower costs through economies of scale from supporting the entire global fleet. The latest contract covers fiscal years 2013 through 2017.

Under a PBL arrangement, a customer receives an agreed-to level of system readiness, as opposed to a traditional contract for specific spare parts and support services. This integrated logistics approach -- in which Boeing manages U.S. assets as a designated Inventory Control Point -- has allowed Boeing to apply innovative spares forecasting and modeling tools to maximize aircraft availability while lowering costs. In many cases, Boeing has provided readiness levels beyond those spelled out in the agreements.

The Department of Defense recently recognized the U.S. Air Force-Boeing GISP team with the 2012 Secretary of Defense "system-level" PBL Award.

"This contract award and the recognition from the secretary of defense are testaments to the long-standing partnership between the U.S. Air Force and Boeing," said Gus Urzua, Boeing vice president and GISP program manager.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - October 16, 2012: The Boeing Co., St. Louis, Mo., is being awarded an $8,490,131 firm-fixed-price delivery order issued under Basic Ordering Agreement (N00019-11-G-0001) to procure 12 Virtual Mission Training System kits and spares in support of the T-45 aircraft platform.  

Work will be performed in Hazelwood, Mo. (96 percent), El Paso, Texas (3 percent), and Mesa, Ariz. (1 percent), and is expected to be completed in April 2014.  

Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  

The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River Md., is the contracting activity. 

T-45 Goshawk Jet Trainer


In 1978, McDonnell Douglas and British Aerospace developed the T-45A Goshawk, a carrier-suitable version of the British Aerospace Hawk. The first Hawk, which flew Aug. 21, 1974, was established as the Royal Air Force principal jet trainer and served the U.S. and European air forces.

The U.S. Navy ordered more than 125 T-45A Goshawks, intending to use them to replace the TA-4J Skyhawk in the Advanced Jet Training Program and the T-2 Buckeye in the Intermediate Jet Pilot Training Program.

The T-45 Training System (T45TS) combines academic, simulation and flight phases into an integrated computer-based training approach that greatly improves training efficiency and safety. The two-seat, single-engine T-45 Goshawk aircraft trainer is at the heart of the T45TS, the first totally integrated training system developed for the Navy.

The T-45C, with a digital cockpit that is more representative of current tactical fighter configurations, made its first flight in October 1997. Boeing has delivered more than 165 Goshawks to the Navy, and more than 2,300 new aviators have earned their wings in the T-45. At least 234 Goshawks were slated to be produced for Navy and Marine Corps training beyond 2030.
