DTN News: Pakistan TODAY September 2, 2009 ~ Pakistani Minister Shot In Leg, Driver Killed *Source: DTN News / Int'l Media (NSI News Source Info) ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - September 2, 2009: Gunmen opened fire at the vehicle of Pakistani Religious Affairs Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi near a market here Wednesday, injuring him and killing his driver, a media report said. Men carry Pakistan's Religious Affairs Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi into the back of a vehicle moments after he was shot in the leg in Islamabad September 2, 2009. Unidentified gunmen shot and wounded the minister in an attack in the capital Islamabad on Wednesday that killed his driver, police said. Kazmi, a cleric and vocal opponent of Pakistan's hardline Taliban, belongs to the Barelvi sect, moderate adherents to Islamic sufi mysticism which venerates saints and their shrines. Online news agency said that motorcycle-borne assailants attacked Kazmi’s vehicle, killing driver Muhammad Younis and injuring the minister and two security guards. Kazmi was shot in his leg while Younis was hit four times. The incident took place in an area known as G-6 sector.
