 (NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - February 15, 2012: Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), will deliver more than 140 Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR) cargo trucks and nearly 70 LVSR tractors for the U.S. Marine Corps following an order from the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command. The LVSR was first fielded in Afghanistan in 2009 and has quickly proven itself as the Marines’ new heavy-payload platform, delivering improvements in mobility, protection and performance.

"The LVSR’s advanced design allows it to accept protection upgrades and perform missions that are above and beyond what the original vehicle requirements called for."

The LVSR cargo variant is used in even the most challenging terrain to transport a wide range of supplies and materials, including ammunition, fuel containers, bridging equipment, flatracks and ISO containers. The LVSR tractor variant is designed to haul combat vehicles, semi-trailers and other equipment. It has a fifth-wheel vertical-loading capacity of 25.3 tons and a recovery winch with a 30-ton capacity.

The LVSR is produced in three variants – cargo, wrecker and tractor – and is used in tandem with the medium-payload, Oshkosh-built Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR). The LVSR is equipped with the Oshkosh Command Zone™ embedded diagnostics system to provide real-time performance feedback on major vehicle systems, including the engine, transmission and brakes. The vehicle also uses the company’s patented TAK-4® independent suspension system for off-road mobility in severe landscapes.

The order is valued at more than $94 million and work is expected to be completed in September 2013. Oshkosh to date has received orders for more than 2,000 LVSRs.

 (NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - February 4, 2012:  Oshkosh Defense, Oshkosh, Wis., is being awarded $94,352,041 for fixed-price delivery order 0151 under a previously awarded indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract (M67854-06-D-5028) for the purchase of 143 Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR) production cargo vehicles, federal retail excise tax for 113 cargo vehicles; 69 LVSR tractor (fifth wheel) vehicles; and federal retail excise tax for 20 tractor vehicles.  

Work will be performed in Oshkosh, Wis., and is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2013.  

Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  The Marine Corps System Command, Quantico, Va., is the contracting activity.

To address these challenges, Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), will unveil the latest in heavy recovery technology at Modern Day Marine 2011 Sept. 27-29 in Quantico, Va.

Oshkosh Defense developed the Heavy Recovery System (HRS) technology demonstrator based on the battle-proven Logistics Vehicle Replacement System (LVSR) platform and cutting-edge wrecker technology from Jerr-Dan, an Oshkosh Corporation company.

“The Oshkosh HRS offers the military unsurpassed recovery abilities from a single vehicle,” said Mike Ivy, vice president and general manager of Army Programs for Oshkosh Defense. “Oshkosh independently developed a highly-protected and mobile platform and worked with our sister company, Jerr-Dan, to integrate top commercial wrecker capabilities. We built this mobile platform to lift and retrieve the heavier armored, IED-damaged vehicles, and most importantly, it integrates the levels of troop protection required in current conflicts."

With a Jerr-Dan 50-ton rotating boom, dual 50,000 lb boom winches, and dual 40,000 lb constant pull drag winches, the HRS can retrieve both Class I and Class II MRAPs, and even the largest military wheeled vehicles. The system can rescue overturned vehicles and drag severely damaged vehicles to the recovery vehicle for hook-up and return to base. The HRS offers spading, along with the ability to operate all four winches simultaneously to enable vehicle recovery in a mire or ravine. Four-axle steering capability delivers a tight turning radius, and superior mobility is delivered through the use of Oshkosh’s TAK-4® independent suspension system across all five axles.

These capabilities are delivered on the battle-tested LVSR platform, used by the U.S. Marine Corps for the transportation of heavy payloads, such as munitions, fuel, water and heavy equipment. The HRS features a proven underbody blast protection for improved crew survivability. The system also has the ability to accept add-on armor kits to increase protection for troops in high-tempo operations across expansive and varied terrain.

Oshkosh will oversee production of 2,244 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicles, which are designed to have MRAP-like protection while offering better mobility on rugged terrain. The Wisconsin-based vehicle maker will oversee production of 2,244 heavily anticipated Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicles, and the order could grow to as many as 10,000 M-ATVs, Pentagon officials have said. The M-ATV is needed to provide the same type of protection expected of the MRAP while offering additional mobility, top Pentagon officials have said. MRAPs have struggled with the rocky terrain in Afghanistan. On June 2, the Joint Requirements Oversight Council approved a plan for 5,244 M-ATVs to be built, said Cheryl Irwin, a Pentagon spokeswoman. The plan calls for the Army to receive 2,598, with the Corps getting 1,565, Special Operations Command receiving 643, the Air Force getting 280 and the Navy receiving 65. An additional 93 vehicles would be set aside for testing, Irwin said. Because of the Pentagon’s urgent demand for these vehicles, Oshkosh began daily production on its manufacturing line a few weeks ago and may enlist the help of others to increase production, company officials said in statement. Oshkosh beat out three other teams to build the M-ATV: BAE Systems, Navistar International Corp., and Force Dynamics, a joint venture between General Dynamics Corp. and Force Protection Inc.

(NSI News Source Info) OSHKOSH, Wis. - July 2, 2009: The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced June 30, it has selected Oshkosh Corporation to supply MRAP All Terrain Vehicles (M-ATV) for its fighting forces.

The Oshkosh M-ATV offers superior mobility and survivability for the U.S. Armed Forces.

Oshkosh has received an initial delivery order from the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) for 2,244 M-ATVs valued at $1.05 billion, following months of government testing on multiple production-ready vehicles. “We are proud that Oshkosh was chosen to provide its M-ATV offer to the the U.S. Armed Forces. Our M-ATV design combines the crew protection warfighters have come to expect in MRAP vehicles with the extreme mobility and durability needed to negotiate Afghanistan’s mountainous off-road terrain,” said Robert G. In recognition of the urgent need, we began daily production of Oshkosh M-ATVs on our flexible manufacturing line a few weeks ago. We and our suppliers have already made significant investments in materials and are well positioned to accelerate our manufacturing capabilities.” The Oshkosh Defense investments, planning and engineering activities, and production of M-ATVs in advance of this award will allow for accelerated delivery of the Oshkosh M-ATV, with initial vehicles available to TACOM LCMC in July. In order to achieve the off-road mobility that soldiers and Marines need in Afghanistan, Oshkosh integrated its TAK-4® independent suspension system onto the vehicle. As further testament to the government’s confidence in this suspension system, the company recently received a supply order to equip more than 1,500 legacy MRAPs with the TAK-4 system and continues to work with the Army to evaluate using the system on additional legacy MRAP models. The TAK-4 suspension system is used on more than 10,000 Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVR) supplied to the Marines and Seabees, as well as on the Marines’ Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR) and the Army’s next-generation Palletized Load System (PLS). Oshkosh Defense teamed with Plasan North America for the M-ATV armor system to provide an advanced armor solution. Plasan also developed the armor system used on more than 5,000 legacy MRAPs and thousands of Oshkosh Armored Cab MTVRs already in theater. Oshkosh performed more than 7,500 miles of independent off-road testing to identify possible enhancements to the vehicle so it would meet or surpass the performance requirements in the rugged terrain in Afghanistan.
