The contract requires Raytheon to develop, integrate and test the missile's guidance and control section. "The laser-guided Maverick is an ideal weapon for urban combat and high-speed maneuvering targets," said Harry Schulte, vice president of Raytheon Missile System's Air Warfare Systems product line. "The combat-proven Maverick is integrated on more than 25 aircraft in 33 nations, and we hope to have the newest addition to the Maverick family available for export soon." The laser-guided Maverick will have an enhanced laser seeker and new software, reducing the risk of collateral damage and enabling aviators to use onboard aircraft lasers to designate targets. *Source: DTN News / Int'l Media (NSI News Source Info) WASHINGTON, DC - September 18, 2009: The Moroccan Air Force has requested equipment and weapon systems for its F-16 C/D block 50/52 aircraft under a US foreign military sale. Morocco requested the sale of 24 F-16C/D block 50/52 aircraft. The deal includes the aircraft, mission equipment and a support package provided by Lockheed Martin and other US and international contractors. The Royal Moroccan Air Force (RMAF) placed a $233.6m order in June 2008. Morocco is a major non-Nato ally of the US and the sale will enhance Morocco's interoperability with the US and other Nato nations. The procurement includes 20 AGM-65D Maverick missiles, four each of AGM-65D and AGM-65H Maverick training missiles and 60 enhanced GBU-12 Paveway II kits. Furthermore, 28 AN/ARC-238 single-channel ground and airborne radios with Havequick I/II or Saturn I/II, a ground-based simulator and 40 LAU-118A missile rails will also be provided under the contract. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has already approved a request for six AN/AAQ-33 Sniper targeting pods with ground station and 16 air combat manoeuvring instrumentation pods with four ground stations. the defence agency has also approved eight joint mission planning systems, two remote operated video enhanced receivers, 30 AN/ALR-93 radar warning receivers and 30 AN/AVS-9 night vision goggles. Under the proposed sale, support equipment and services will also be provided to the air force. The DSCA has identified about ten contractors for the sale including Lockheed, Northrop, Boeing and BAE Systems.

The laser-guided Maverick missile is a direct-attack, air-to-ground precision munition used extensively by the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps in current combat operations. The AGM-65E2 employs the latest in digital semi-active laser sensor technology, which reduces the risk of collateral damage and enables aircraft to use onboard lasers to designate a target. "The newest variant of the laser-guided Maverick is perfectly suited for urban combat and high-speed maneuvering targets," said Harry Schulte, vice president of Air Warfare Systems. "Because of its accuracy and standoff range, the U.S. warfighter and our international partners can use this weapon against a variety of targets." More than 69,000 missiles have been produced to date, and more than 6,000 have been used in combat with a 93 percent success rate. The AGM-65 Maverick is a tactical, air-to-surface guided missile designed for close air support, interdiction and defense suppression mission. It provides stand-off capability and high probability of strike against a wide range of tactical targets, including armor, air defenses, ships, transportation equipment and fuel storage facilities. Maverick was used during Operation Desert Storm and, according to the Air Force, hit 85 percent of its targets. The laser-guided Maverick missile is a direct-attack, air-to-ground precision munition used extensively by the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps in ongoing combat operations. The newest variant of the missile, the AGM-65E2, will have an enhanced-laser seeker and new software, reducing the risk of collateral damage and enabling aircraft to use their onboard lasers to designate a target. U.S. Air Force Awards Raytheon Contract For Laser-Guided Maverick Missile (NSI News Source Info) TUCSON, Ariz. - April 4, 2009: The U.S. Air Force awarded Raytheon Company a contract to upgrade guidance and control sections for the air-to-ground Maverick missile. Maverick AGM-65: Maverick launched from an F-16 fighter. "The military is successfully employing laser-guided Mavericks against moving targets and in urban environments," said Harry Schulte, Raytheon Missile Systems vice president of Air Warfare Systems. "This contract is a win for the warfighters, because it gives them a reliable combat-proven weapon they can take to war almost immediately." The contract initiates engineering efforts required to restart the laser-guided Maverick production line and will incorporate state-of-the-art laser-seeker technology. The contract will result in the upgrade of up to 450 laser Maverick guidance sections for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. Raytheon plans to deliver the first upgraded guidance sections to the U.S. Air Force in 20 to 24 months. The contract uses funds from a General Services Administration exchange program. The program provides the latest technology to the U.S. Air Force without affecting normal weapon procurement budgets.
