(NYSE: TXT) company, announced today that it has submitted its proposal for the Canadian Forces Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) program. The Textron TAPV Team, led by Textron Systems Canada, includes Textron Marine & Land Systems and Rheinmetall Canada. Additional key Canadian suppliers include: Kongsberg Protech Systems Canada, a subcontractor to Rheinmetall Canada for the Remote Weapons Systems; and Engineering Office Deisenroth Canada (EODC), a subcontractor direct to Textron Systems Canada for add-on armour.
A contract for the TAPV program to procure 500 vehicles, with an option for up to 100 more, is expected to be awarded in early 2012.

Textron’s proposed TAPV, specifically engineered to meet Canadian Forces requirements, draws on Textron Marine & Land Systems’ more than 45 years of experience in the design and production of armoured vehicles. Building from the combat-tested Armored Security Vehicle platform, Textron’s TAPV has undergone five years of extensive research and development. The result is a technology readiness level (TRL) 8 vehicle, designed to deliver outstanding performance and sustainability for a broad spectrum of operations in the world’s most challenging environments.
If awarded the TAPV project, Ottawa-based Textron Systems Canada, as prime contractor, will provide overall program and configuration management, act as the design authority for change management, coordinate vehicle integration activities by Canadian subcontractors, manage the 25-year In-Service Support contract, and execute the Industrial and Regional Benefits program.
Rheinmetall Canada (www.rheinmetall.ca), at its facilities in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Ottawa, will perform multiple integration functions and final vehicle assembly to include the remote weapons station and government furnished equipment, and play a large role in the program’s long-term system support.
Kongsberg Protech Systems Canada (www.kongsberg.com/en/KPS) will provide its Remote Weapon Station (RWS) for the Textron TAPV vehicle through a subcontract with Rheinmetall Canada. Kongsberg would be responsible for assembly, testing, and delivery of its RWS for the TAPV program, using its production facility in London, Ontario.
EODC (www.eodc.ca), an IBD-owned Canadian company based in Ottawa, is offering IBD’s fourth-generation Advanced Modular Armour Protection (AMAP) technology in support of the Textron TAPV. This newest ballistic protection technology includes the use of nano-ceramics and nano-steels to provide enhanced vehicle survivability at lower weight levels.

(NYSE: TXT) company, today announced that its Shadow Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems (TUAS) have completed 100,000 missions. With 113 systems ordered and 87 delivered, Shadow systems are deployed with the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, Army Special Forces and Marine Corps. These systems have amassed more than 445,000 flight hours, the majority of which have been in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Shadow is the smallest of the Shadow family of unmanned aircraft systems developed by AAI. It is in operational service with the US Army and US Marine Corps. Shadow is used to locate, recognise and identify targets up to 125km from a brigade tactical operations centre. The system recognises tactical vehicles by day and night from an altitude of 8,000ft and at a slant range of 3.5km. Imagery and telemetry data is transmitted in near-real time from the Shadow ground control station to joint stars common ground station, all-sources analysis system and to the army field artillery targeting and direction system. Shadow is in operational service in Afghanistan and in Iraq. By the end of December 2007, it had amassed more than 234,000 flight hours and flown in more than 55,000 missions. The Shadow family of unmanned aircraft systems is produced at AAI's facilities in Hunt Valley, Maryland. AAI Corporation is a subsidiary of United Industrial Corporation.* Ongoing system upgrades have been critical to enhancing the system's performance and reliability, enabling customers to evolve and expand mission profiles. While initially utilized as a day/night reconnaissance platform, AAI is now adding the capability to acquire and designate a target to its Shadow TUAS. In addition, deployed Shadow aircraft also are being equipped with a Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System, or SINCGARS, communications relay. "The Shadow aircraft's mission set continues to expand through our ongoing enhancement activities," says Vice President of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Steven Reid. "We are fortunate to have several touch points with our users, from focus groups to direct feedback received by our field service representatives who work alongside deployed Shadow units. This valuable feedback keeps us connected to our customers' ever-changing mission needs so we can deliver system upgrades that meet those needs or anticipate new ones." Among current upgrades is a new lithium battery designed to provide power in the event of generator failure, giving the aircraft more than an hour and a half of additional flight time to land safely on base without necessitating an emergency parachute recovery. AAI also is integrating a new electronic fuel injection engine and a new fuel delivery system, which together are expected to bolster system reliability. The new battery, electronic fuel injection engine and fuel delivery system are expected to be fielded starting in late 2009. AAI's interoperable ground control technologies also are growing in maturity to deliver a wider range of user capabilities. The company's new Universal Ground Control Station, or UGCS, builds on the successful One System(r) Ground Control Station with greater operational flexibility and scalability, as well as enhanced features for command and control, joint services interoperability, information exchange and user ergonomics. "The Shadow system of today is not the Shadow system of six years ago, when it was first deployed into combat operations," says Reid. "Its capabilities, reliability and user friendliness have grown exponentially. What won't change is the teamwork AAI employees display to keep these valuable assets in the field with more than 95 percent availability, our commitment to developing the most robust system possible, and our responsiveness to existing and future user needs."

DTN News: India Acquires CBU-105 Sensor Fuzed Weapons (NSI News Source Info) WASHINGTON - August 30, 2009: The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale to India of CBU-105 Sensor Fuzed Weapons as well as associated equipment and services.

The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $375 million. The Government of India has requested a possible sale of 510 CBU-105 Sensor Fuzed Weapons; 19 CBU-105 Integration test assets (12 live tails, 7 inert tails); 5 CBU-97 Integration test assets; containers; aircraft modification and integration; spare and repair parts; support and test equipment; software support; personnel training and training equipment; technical data and publications; U.S. Government and contractor engineering and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics support.
The estimated cost is $375 million. This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to strengthen the U.S.-India strategic relationship and to improve the security of an important partner which continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in South Asia.
India intends to use the Sensor Fuzed Weapons to modernize its armed forces and enhance its defensive ability to counter ground-armored threats.
The missiles will assist the Indian Air Force to develop and enhance standardization and operational ability with the United States. India will have no difficulty absorbing these missiles into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.
The prime contractor will be Textron Systems Corporation of Wilmington, MA. The purchaser has requested offsets; however, at this time agreements are undetermined and will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and contractor.
Implementation of this proposed sale will require annual trips to India involving U.S. Government and contractor representatives for technical reviews/support, and program management for a period of approximately two years.
There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale. This notice of a potential sale is required by law; it does not mean that the sale has been concluded.
