The chief of the Chinese army's General Staff Chen Bingde discussed military cooperation with Russian Defense Minister Anatoli Serdyukov on Thursday.

During their talks, Chen, chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), said bilateral military relations were in good shape and there had been dramatic progress in recent years.

China stood ready to work with Russia to further advance their military ties, which would help promote the China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership and was conducive to peace and stability in the region and the world, Chen said.

Serdyukov lauded the relationship between the two countries and the two militaries.

The two sides also conducted an in-depth exchange of views on contacts and cooperation between defense departments and the two militaries and reached broad consensus.

Chen arrived here Wednesday for an official good-will visit.

Russia is the first leg of his three-nation tour, which will also take him to Ukraine and Israel

In order to solve this problem a new plan was written in 1990. The "Army of the Sky" plan (T'zva Shamayim - T'ZAVACH", in Hebrew) stated which unit does what and when. T'ZAVACH is basically the plan by which Israel fights terrorism both domestic and foreign, until this very day. In 1987 the intifada broke out and several Israeli undercover CT units were formed in the IDF, MAGAV and in the Israeli Police. The sides also discussed potential Israeli training for Indian special forces. Sources said the sides are also discussing a proposed joint effort to develop a land-warfare missile in a program that might be similar to the Indian Air Force's February agreement to spend $2.2 billion to create a 70-kilometer surface-to-air missile The meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Defence was co-chaired by the director-general of Israeli Defence Ministry retired Brigadier-General Pinchas Buchris and Indian Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar.

*Source: DTN News / Int'l Media (NSI News Source Info) MEDELLIN, Colombia - August 16, 2009: Colombia would like to increase its military ties with Brazil and other South American countries, President Alvaro Uribe said on Friday in the face of criticism over an pending security pact with Washington.

Uribe's government is expected to sign a deal this month giving U.S. forces increased access to military bases in order to better fight the cocaine trade and Marxist insurgents.

The left-wing government of Venezuela has blasted the plan as a threat to regional stability. The moderate government of Brazil has also voiced concern over the pact.

"We would like the accord with the United States to be projected throughout the continent," Uribe told a business conference in the city of Medellin."

We would like to have it with Brazil," he said. "I do not see this pact with the United States as incompatible with having pacts with other countries as well."

Brazil, South America's biggest country and largest economy, is building up its armed forces as part of a push to increase its role on the world stage.

Washington has given billions of dollars in military assistance to Colombia, helping Uribe put the insurgents on the defensive. But the country remains the world's biggest producer of cocaine.

Bilateral relations were sound with frequent high-level visits and fast-developing economic and trade cooperation, said Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie in a meeting with visiting State Secretary of the Mongolian Defense Ministry M. Borbaatar. Liang said China attached great importance to bilateral military ties and was ready to advance military friendship and cooperation. From June 28 to July 3, China and Mongolia held "Peacekeeping Mission-2009." The two sides have also held the fourth Defense Security Consultation. Liang said both activities achieved positive results, and hope the two sides could further cooperation, and enhance mutual trust, so as to contribute to regional and global peace and stability. M. Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie told his Uruguayan counterpart, Jose Bayardi, that the latest meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez in March had greatly advanced ties. Liang, also a state councilor, stressed that China is willing to make joint efforts with Uruguay to boost pragmatic exchanges and cooperation between the two armed forces. In the meeting with Liang, Bayardi said, "President Vazquez's state visit to China has produced fruitful results," adding that Uruguay is ready to further military exchange and cooperation with China. The two defense ministers also exchanged views on such issues as peacekeeping cooperation, personnel exchanges and military training. Bayardi started his eight-day official goodwill visit to China from April 5.
