(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - January 17, 2014: Helicopters and transport aircraft offered to Indian Armed Forces would be the focus of the European Airbus Group at the four-day DEFEXPO 2014 starting February 6. 

In a statement, Airbus said in its first participation in any defence show under its new brand-name Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space, and Airbus Helicopters, it will highlight its AS550 C3 Fennec and AS565 MBe Panther choppers, which are in race for Army and Navy tenders respectively for replacing their light helicopter fleet. 

"Defexpo is an important land, naval and homeland security exhibition for us as it provides an excellent platform to interact with customers and potential partners. From January 1, EADS has rebranded and reorganised to Airbus Group, this will be our first international show under the new brand," said Yves Guillaume, President India, Airbus Group. 

"We are investing in expanding our industrial and engineering footprint here because we regard India as a strategic resource hub for the Group and not just as a market. It is this message of partnership that we would like to take to our audience here via the show," he said. 

Airbus Group comprises three divisions namely Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space, and Airbus Helicopters. While Airbus focuses on commercial aircraft business, Airbus Helicopters (previously Eurocopter) handles all commercial and military helicopter activities. 

The Group will also showcase its C295 tactical transport aircraft, which is being offered by Airbus for IAF's requirement for replacement of the Avro aircraft. 

In UAV section, it will put on display the Tanan 300 is a diesel engine-powered tactical vertical takeoff and landing UAS especially suited for maritime surveillance.

Avfuel Corp.**, Ann Arbor, Mich., has been awarded a maximum $7,417,557 fixed-price with economic-price-adjustment contract for into-plane jet fuel.  This contract is a competitive acquisition, and one offer was received.  Locations of performance are Michigan and California with a March 31, 2018 performance completion date.  Using military services are Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and federal civilian agencies.  Type of appropriation is fiscal 2014 through fiscal 2018 defense working capital funds.  The contracting activity is the Defense Logistics Agency Energy, Fort Belvoir, Va., (SP0600-14-D-0015).

AIR FORCE

Goodrich Corp., Westford, Mass., has been awarded an $183,000,000 firm-fixed-price undefinitized contract action (P00013) for an existing contract (FA8620-12-C-4020) for the Royal Saudi Air Force DB110 Reconnaissance System program.  This modification changes the requirements to include in-country setup and installation, ground stations, and pod survey study being produced under the basic contract.  Work will be performed at Westford, Mass., and is expected to be completed by July 23, 2021.  This contract is 100 percent foreign military sales for Saudi Arabia.  Air Force Life Cycle Management Center/WINK, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity.

Leidos Inc., Reston, Va., has been awarded a $62,480,000 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-incentive-fee contract for Mission Planning and Analysis Common Services.  Contractor will perform software engineering, integration, technical support, and training requirements of the Integrated Strategic Planning and Analysis Network quality review function.  Work will be performed at Omaha, Neb., and is expected to be completed by Aug. 9, 2019.  This award is the result of a competitive acquisition, and three offers were received.  No funds have been obligated at time of award.  The 55th Contracting Squadron, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., is the contracting activity (FA4600-14-D-0002).

NAVY

Northrop Grumman Systems Corp.-Electronics Sector, Baltimore, Md., is being awarded a $33,017,449 cost-plus-fixed-fee completion job order under basic ordering agreement (N00164-13-G-WT15) to design and build operational test program sets in support of the P-8A AN/ALQ 240 electronic support measures repair depot standup at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Ind.  Work will be performed in Linthicum, Md., and is expected to be completed by September 2019.  Fiscal 2013 aircraft procurement, Navy funds in the amount of $33,017,449 will be obligated at time of award.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  Navy Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Ind., is the contracting activity.

Actor Salman Khan spent an afternoon with the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on the kite-flying festival of Uttarayan or Makar Sankranti.

May the best man win," said Mr Khan while interacting with reporters in Ahmedabad, who asked him if he endorses Mr Modi for the country's top job. The Gujarat Chief Minister is described by his critics as a divisive leader who failed to protect hundreds of Muslims during communal riots in 2002 in his state. A court recently found that there is no evidence to merit his prosecution for complicity in the violence, as alleged by his opponents. It also upheld a Supreme Court investigation that had cleared Mr Modi.

Defending himself, Mr Khan said his NGO, Being Human, had pledged to fund surgeries on 200 children in the state on behalf of all artistes who performed at the event. "We did our job. (NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - January 16, 2014: Since the 1960s, the U.S. Navy has needed a reliable carrier-based strike fighter, and the F-18 and its different iterations have answered the call.

To this day, the fighter jet is considered “the most advanced multi-role strike fighter available” to the U.S. Armed Forces, according to the U.S. Navy.

Also known as the “backbone of U.S. naval aviation strike warfare,” the F-18 Hornet — the single-seat E model and the two-seat F model — is capable of performing “virtually every mission in the tactical spectrum,” the U.S. Navy reported.

Today, Northrop Grumman plays a principal role in the aircraft’s design and production. The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Block II, which can reach speeds of 1,360 mph and altitudes up to 50,000 feet, boasts a combat range of 1,275 nautical miles, according to the Navy.

The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is a combat-proven strike fighter with built-in versatility. The Super Hornet's suite of integrated and networked systems provides enhanced interoperability, total force support for the combatant commander and for the troops on the ground.

Pacsgear, Inc.,* Pleasanton, Calif., has been awarded a maximum $30,000,000 fixed-price with economic-price-adjustment, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for radiology systems, subsystems, accessories, service, manual, and repair/spare parts.  This contract is a competitive acquisition, and there were fifty offers received.  This is a one-year base contract with four one-year option periods.  Location of performance is California with a Jan. 13, 2015 performance completion date.  Using military services are Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and federal civilian agencies.  Type of appropriation is fiscal year 2014 defense working capital funds.  The contracting activity is the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, Philadelphia, Pa., (SPE2D1-14-D-0003). 

 

Robin Industries, Inc., Independence, Ohio, has been awarded a maximum $10,694,880 firm-fixed-price contract for vehicle track shoe assemblies.  This contract is a competitive acquisition and there were two offers received.  This is a one-year base contract with one option period.  Locations of performance are Ohio and Texas with a Nov. 14, 2014 performance completion date.  Using military service is Army.  Type of appropriation is fiscal year 2014 Army working capital funds.  The contracting activity is the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime, Warren, Mich., (SPRDL1-14-C-0027). 

 

Esaote North America, Inc., Indianapolis, Ind., has been awarded a maximum $7,500,000 fixed-price with economic-price-adjustment, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for radiology systems, subsystems, accessories, services, manual, and repair parts.  This contract is a competitive acquisition and there were fifty offers received.  This is a one-year base contract with four one-year option periods.  Location of performance is Indiana with a Jan. 13, 2015 performance completion date.  Using military services are Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and federal civilian agencies.  Type of appropriation is fiscal year 2014 defense working capital funds.  The contracting activity is the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, Philadelphia, Pa., (SPE2D1-14-D-0002). 

 

ARMY

 

Stanley Consultants, Inc., Muscatine, Iowa was awarded a $60,000,000 firm-fixed-price indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity foreign military sales contract for general and design architect-engineer services for U.S. Central Command.  Funds and work performance location will be determined with each order.  Estimated completion date is Jan 13, 2019.  Bids were solicited via the Internet with twenty received.  Army Corps of Engineers, Winchester, Va., is the contracting activity (W912ER-14-D-0001).

 

Baker-AECOM (joint venture), Moon Township, Pa. was awarded a $60,000,000 firm-fixed-price indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity foreign military sales contract for general and design architect-engineer services for U.S. Central Command.  Funds and work performance location will be determined with each order.  Estimated completion date is Jan 13, 2019.  Bids were solicited via the Internet with twenty received.  Army Corps of Engineers, Winchester, Va. is the contracting activity (W912ER-14-D-0002).

 

Alutiiq Diversified Services, LLC, Anchorage, Alaska was awarded a $6,989,861 firm-fixed-price bridge contract for Redstone Information Technology Services to maintain operational continuity until the selection board has evaluated contractor proposals.  Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance (Army) funds in the amount of $25,774 were obligated at the time of the award.  Work will be performed in Huntsville, Ala.  Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala. is the contracting activity (W9124P-14-C-0023).

 

NAVY

 

Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc., Monroeville, Pa., is being awarded a $593,104,854 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for naval nuclear propulsion components.  Work will be performed in Monroeville, Pa. (66 percent), and Schenectady, N.Y. (34 percent).  No completion date or additional information is provided on naval nuclear propulsion program contracts.  Fiscal 2014 shipbuilding and conversion, Navy contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N00024-14-C-2101). 

 

General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp., Groton, Conn., is being awarded a $15,000,000 cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-13-C-4308) to provide non-nuclear submarine repair work on Groton-based submarines under the New England Maintenance Manpower Initiative (NEMMI).  Under the terms of the contract, Electric Boat will provide NEMMI tasks in support of non-nuclear maintenance, modernization and repair of operational nuclear powered submarines, floating dry docks, support and service craft and plant equipment assigned to the Naval Submarine Support Facility, New London, Conn.  Work will be performed in New London, Conn., and is expected to be completed by December 2014.  Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance, Navy contract funds in the amount of $15,000,000 will be obligated at time of award, and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N00024-13-C-4308).

 

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training, Manassas, Va., is being awarded an $8,863,977 cost-plus-incentive-fee modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-09-C-6247) for the production of Technical Insertion 14 (TI-14) Integrated Submarine Imaging Systems (ISIS) and spares.  The ISIS provides mission critical, all weather, visual, and electronic search, digital image management, indication, warning, and platform architecture interface capabilities.  Work will be performed in Johnstown, Pa. (46 percent), Manassas, Va. (26 percent), Northampton, Mass. (17 percent), and Chantilly, Va. (11 percent), and is expected to be completed by March 2017.   Fiscal 2013 and 2014 shipbuilding and conversion, Navy and Fiscal 2014 other procurement, Navy contract funds in the amount of $8,863,977 will be obligated at time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

 

DEFENSE ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS AGENCY

 

Agentase LLC, Pittsburgh, Pa., has been awarded an $11,206,720 cost contract. The work will support the DARPA’s In Vivo Nanoplatforms program (IVN). IVN seeks to develop new classes of adaptable nanoparticles for persistent, distributed, unobtrusive physiologic and environmental sensing as well as the treatment of physiologic abnormalities, illness and infectious disease. Work will be performed in Pittsburgh, Pa., (44.59 percent); Cambridge, Mass., (8.04 percent); Davis, Calif., (40.92 percent) and College Station, Texas, (6.45 percent).  The estimated completion date is April 14, 2015.  Fiscal 2013 research and development funds are being obligated at time of award.  The contracting activity is DARPA, Arlington, Va., (HR0011-14-C-0030).

The basketball star made the announcement after being pushed on whether he would challenge Mr Kim on his controversial human rights record.

‘That’s not the right thing to do. He’s my friend first,’ he told Sky News.

‘He’s my friend. I don’t give a s***. I tell the world: he’s my f****** friend, I love him.’

The 52-year-old didn’t close the door on the possibility of bringing up issues such as labour camps, where around 200,000 political prisoners are thought to be held.

He added: ‘And I hope that if this opens doors and we can actually talk about certain things, then we can do certain things but I am not going to sit there and go in and say “hey guy, you’re doing the wrong thing”.’

Rodman arrived in North Korea on Monday with a group of former NBA players, including Vin Baker and Cliff Robinson.

The US players will play a team from North Korea in Pyongyang on Wednesday to mark Mr Kim’s birthday in what is being referred to as ‘basketball diplomacy’
