USMC prepares to stand up third UAV squadron 2 August 2008: The US Marine Corps (USMC) has announced that it is on course to stand up its third unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) squadron on 12 September. Unmanned Aerial Squadron (VMU) 3 will be based at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) at Twentynine Palms in California and is being created to provide additional reconnaissance capability as well as assisting in the training of ground units. According to a USMC spokesperson, VMU-3 will rotate during training and on deployment with VMU-2, which is also based at MCAGCC, and VMU-1, which operates out of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point in North Carolina.
